Who we are, why we do what we do, and how we got here
2002 – Red-i Design is Born
Belinda Vesey-Brown establishes Red-i Design in Brisbane, focusing on strategic design and marketing for education, corporate and government clients.
2008 – WCAG 2.0 Released
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 are published, setting a new standard for digital accessibility. Red-i begin integrating these principles into their design processes starting with the community work they were doing for Brisbane City Council.
2010 – Big Year of Evolution
- Red-i becomes Brio Group, reflecting the growth from a design studio into a full-service creative agency.
- Brandonian launches, introducing Brio Group’s proprietary brand strategy framework built on brand archetypes, now used by clients to align purpose, tone, and messaging for deeper audience connection.
www.brandonian.com - Tagged PDF is created, becoming Australia’s first document accessibility service, focused on WCAG-compliant PDF remediation.
- Strategic partnership formed with Vision Australia, reinforcing Brio Group’s leadership in accessible design and communication.
2017 – Accessibility Training with Vision Australia
Brio Group begins delivering document accessibility training in partnership with Vision Australia, helping internal teams, government bodies, and corporate clients learn how to create WCAG-compliant PDFs and accessible content. This marks a significant step in Brio Group’s role as both a service provider and educator in the accessibility space.
2018 – WCAG 2.1 Released
WCAG 2.1 is introduced, focusing on mobile accessibility and users with low vision or cognitive disabilities. Brio Group updates its practices to align with these new guidelines.
2020 – Developed Video Remediation Tool
Using the latest AI advancements Brio Group started to develop during COVID a video remediation tool that allows users to make their video content accessible. The software lets you add in captions, audio descriptions and give you a written transcript.
2023 – WCAG 2.2 Released
The latest update, WCAG 2.2, is released, emphasising improvements for users with cognitive and learning disabilities. Brio Group continues to lead in implementing these standards across projects.
2024 – Launch of Meet Aandi
Brio Group introduces Meet Aandi, a sister brand dedicated to ensuring design outcomes are enabled for accessibility, furthering the commitment to inclusive design practices.
