Meet the woman behind Peppermint Magazine

Meet the woman behind Peppermint Magazine

Kelley Sheenan from Peppermint Magazine will kick off the Design Institute of Australia’s 2010 Breakfast Series: Bubble & Speak as their first speaker this Thursday 15 July.

Kelley comes from a graphic design background, graduating with distinction from Media Design School in Auckland. Initially working for a design/communications company, Kelley and her husband Ben McGill soon started their own design agency and graphics-based clothing label in Auckland. After much research into the adverse environmental and ethical effects of the fashion industry, Peppermint magazine was born. Kelley now calls Brisbane home and enjoys the work-life balance of working on Peppermint from her home studio while enjoying quality time with their four year old son.

Peppermint is an indie magazine that covers eco and ethical fashion. It’s playful, fresh and intelligent approach showcases the best of eco designers from Australia and the rest of the world. Peppermint picked up five awards already including Best in Sustainability in Publishing and Best Design for a Consumer Magazine, with Kelley winning best overall Designer of the Year at the 2009 Publishers Australia Bell Magazine Excellence Awards. This green magazine is printed on 100% recycled paper and on a waterless printing press.

Peppermint is such a feel good read! I recently found and bought 2 very sought after back issues on the net. I can’t wait to escape work and read them! The only issue missing from my collection is issue 1 – I’m still on the hunt!

The breakfast will be held this Thursday 15 July at 6.45am for prompt 7.00am start, 9.00am finish. (Breakfast served promptly at 7.15am) in Brisbane at the Emporium Hotel, Function Room, Level 1, 1000 Ann Street, Fortitude Valley.

See you there!
