Market Design

Market Design

I’m a great fan of produce markets. I like buy fresh fruit and veges at a stall where it’s all fresh, and not wrapped in plastic after a long trip in a refrigerated truck.
Here in Brisbane there are many markets servicing the various suburbs, the best known are the markets at Rocklea, where the wholesale markets operate from.
The retail markets take over the car parks, and are very extensive, selling plants, nicknacks, and hot food, which you will need to get you around the place . It’s enormous, and crowded, everyone who doesn’t have a push chair has a trolley, or some milk crates on wheels to drag their goodies around.
I finally gave up going to Rocklea because its a drag fighting your way through the crowd, but then I discovered the markets at the Hotel Broadway in the ‘Gabba. You can park for free in the street, get a hot breakfast for $5.00, and buy all your fresh produce in a few metre’s walk, fresh bread, olives, flowers. It’s all good, better for you than going to the supermarket, you’ll save heaps and be doing yourself and the planet a favour. get to your local markets and shop till you drop, it’s all in a good cause.
