Palace Centro screened the International Animation Showcase last night, as part of the St George Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF). The showcase included an eclectic collection of creative short animations each with distinctive styles, giving a window into the direction of contemporary  animation. One of my favourites was from German animator …Pauls Hykade. With a trip through cartoon history,  the psychedelic animation illustrates how contemporary culture can make beautiful new things out of old recognizable images.

If you missed out on the International Animation Showcase last night, it will screen again on Friday 4:00pm at Palace Barracks.

The BIFF runs until 14 November, so be sure to check out some more of the latest world cinema.

Yours in animation,

Anya
