Gary Vaynerchuk @ Business Squared

Always looking for opportunities to broaden our minds, we jumped at the chance to see Gary Vaynerchuk speak at the Business Squared event this week. The “serial entrepreneur” and four time NYT bestselling author honed in on social media, maximising our investments therein, and the way we’re consuming media today.

Here are our major takeaways from the day:

  1. Facebook and Instagram Influencers are relatively inexpensive at the moment. Much like the bitcoin of yesteryear (which, let’s face it, we’re all still kicking ourselves about) the cost per lead in these channels will significantly increase in the future. He recommends preempting this boom and taking advantage now.
  2. ROI on Facebook and Instagram in Australia/New Zealand is up to 40% higher than other parts of the world. Whether because this audience is more receptive, or the marketplace is simply not as noisy here, he assured us we’ve got a good thing going here and we should do our best to make it work for us.
  3. The shift in online content consumption is moving away from video and back to audio. He says that people are multi-tasking (his words) and listening to audio while doing other things. This means content producers posting the same content on YouTube and as a podcast have the right idea, and that those who are purely producing video should look at diversifying the type of content they’re putting out.

Did anyone else get along to Gary’s talk? What did you think?
