AGDA Icograda Website

Background

The International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) is the world body for professional communication design. In 2010 Icograda Optimism Design Week came to Brisbane, in conjunction with national graphic design body AGDA who approached local agencies to produce the brand. Brio Group were commissioned to design, build and manage the Icograda website. Meanwhile another Brisbane-based studio created the brand - which meant the event’s creative was kept Brisbane-based, allowing the city to showcase its collective creative talents.

Objectives

To promote the Icograda event and Brisbane as a destination for good design and emerging creativity in a bid to attract people to register and come to Brisbane for the event. To develop a fresh look and feel for the website, ensuring mandatories are met for key stakeholder and sponsorship logos. The site must have the ability to accommodate regular new speakers which will be added to the site. To create an effective data capturing device and Brio Group to manage the database.

Strategic Approach

Brio Group created a clean, modern and well designed interface which is practical and user friendly. We allowed for plenty of white space which allows for the key promotional images on the homepage to ‘pop’ out of the site. We built nine promo tiles that pull in fresh, random content - giving the site a dynamic, constantly-fresh and exciting feel. The uncluttered design allows for easy accommodation of the extensive list of sponsors’ logos. Meanwhile we applied drop down menus as they’re capable of expanding to allow for regular new speakers to be added to the site. We’ve integrated a Twitter feed on the homepage that pulls in the latest tweets and gives the user the ability to tweet the page and promote the event to their followers. Data can be collected from the Optimise Mailing List, which Brio Group have set up using Brio Mail - a direct marketing tool which is 100% trackable and easy to use. As this Brisbane Icograda is the first Icograda event to come to Australia, we’ve included tourism-focused content that showcases to the global audience the full scope of wonders our country offers. A dynamic video is hosted on the home page; meanwhile, to promote Brisbane we’ve published local content and a what’s on guide for events around Design Week, allowing visitors to maximise their stay in the capital city. 

Results

The website launched successfully to tie in with the event’s marketing activities and is already attracting impressive website visitor results. Complete registration figures are not available at this stage.
