For the past four years Brio Group has produced the creative and collateral for the Business Improvement in Government (BIIG) Conference, hosted by the Queensland Government. The conference, held once a year, has featured a number of the world’s great thinkers and strategists such as Edward de Bono and in 2010 we were treated to an inspiring speech from Li Cunxin, the author and man behind Mao’s Last Dancer. The conference aims to inspire and encourage collaboration between the Queensland Government’s senior officers and is a catalyst for change and innovation.

In 2010 Brio Group were asked to create an engaging concept for the Bigger Challenges, Bigger Possibilities theme. The concept needed to engage the audience and motivate them to participate. The creative needed to be easily expandable to a range of media as it would be rolled out across many touchpoints.
We created a play on the BIIG corporate mark in which illustrated people scaled ladders and climbed to the top of the ‘BIIG’ to literally ‘reach new heights’. This theme was rolled out over digital and print materials, including the website which had a different version for the Queensland Government’s intranet (which contained secure documents) and the general public. We produced a dynamic and action-packed multimedia presentation using punchy typography in tandem with the beats of Coldplay’s Viva La Vida, resulting in a exciting introduction to the conference that inspired and excited the audience. After the conference had commenced we were engaged to create a wrap-up eBook that collated the learnings from the conference into an online, interactive piece. The eBook was designed to be used as a reference tool for those who attended as well as those who didn’t, capturing great photographs of the speakers as well as raw data from the real-time Zing! Ideation Sessions in which participants engaged in session using de Bono’s 6 Thinking Hats to brainstorm the ideas and issues around ‘innovation in the public sector’.
The conference was a huge success with many shedding a tear during Li Cunxin’s heart-wrenching tales of hardship and sacrifice. Demand for the eBook was high, however Brio Group worked to produce it in record time.
